How a file actually unfolds
No grey areas, no "it is in progress". Here is precisely what happens between your first call and your landing in Montréal or Toronto.
Six stages, no grey areas
At every moment you know where your file stands, what you still owe us, and what comes next.
Eligibility assessment
48 hYou complete our questionnaire or come to the office. We review age, education, experience, languages, family situation and finances, then tell you plainly which programs are genuinely open to you — and which are not.
Strategy and retainer
1 weekTogether we choose the strongest pathway, sometimes two in parallel. You receive a written retainer agreement: exact scope, our fees, government fees, timeline. Nothing starts without your signature.
Building the file
3 to 10 weeksThe long, decisive part. Collecting and certifying translations, language tests, educational credential assessment, proof of funds, explanation letter. Every document is verified before it enters the file.
Official filing with IRCC
1 to 3 daysWe file through our authorised representative portal, under our CICC number. You receive the submission confirmation, the file number and your tracking credentials.
Monitoring and responses
VariableBiometrics, medical exam, police certificates, requests for additional documents: we watch the file and answer on time. If a procedural fairness letter arrives, we respond — that is often where everything is decided.
Decision and departure prep
On approvalApproval, visa counterfoil or port-of-entry letter. We then prepare the arrival: flights, housing, documents to present at the border, first settlement steps.
The timelines shown are those observed on our own files. IRCC processing times vary by program, country of residence and time of year — they are published officially and updated weekly by the Government of Canada.
